Poor George. He's never seen any movies. Rather than mourn their dear friend, Travis and Dan have taken it upon themselves to show him what he is missing. But they don't stop at showing him famous movies! They also help George to understand how each film fits into the Great Narrative of Film. Not only THAT the film of the week is significant, but WHY and HOW. Also, they make jokes and stuff.

The Fall Break 2021: A tale of Two Trilogies was never meant to veer into the path of Halloween: Resurrection. But George opened his big old yapper and said he wanted to see it (see the H20 episode) so we made him watch it and the results were... satisfying.
Trick or Treat, Michael Powell!
Will George learn a new... uhh... reproductive term? (He will! Which one?) Does Dan go on a Michael Powell rant while also defending the level of gratuitous nudity in 80s slashers? (He will!) Can Travis make a joke so crass that he leaves Dan speechless? (You'll have to judge for yourself!)

Halloween 3 (1982)

Dan and Travis present George with the opportunity we never had in the 80s and 90s: Halloween 3 in a context that actually makes sense to an uninitiated viewer. Presented here as Halloween 3: the sequel to The Fog (which is our stand-in for Halloween 2), will the science make H3 make sense in a way it never did as a sequel to Halloween 2?
George couldn't possibly know what he was getting himself into with this movie. He had once predicted Halloween 3 would see Michael in hell. Was it instead George in hell? Floppy firemen, amorous androids and the most insane George moment yet await you!

George has never seen any Kung Fu movies... except for Kung Fu Panda. He was not ready for the awesomeness of Vinegar Syndrome Pictures' first release: New York Ninja. Luckily, Vinegar Syndrome provided us with a sneak peak at the upcoming film. And Travis and Dan stepped up to show George what magic was waiting for him in the Big Apple of the 1980s.
New York Ninja was shot in 1984, in guerilla fashion around New York, by director John Liu (In the Claws of the CIA, Dragon Blood). But it was thought to be lost to time until it was rescued by the restoration wizards at Vinegar Syndrome. Director Kurtis Spieler compiled the nearly 30 year old footage into a streamlined story. And with the help of producers including Brad Henderson, also of Vinegar Syndrome, he compiled a cast of voice actors from the exploitation and B-Movie Hall of Fame (not a real place, but it should be).
Included on the upcoming Blu-Ray release is an excellent documentary look at the process of shooting a guerilla Kung Fu project on Staten Island and around New York in the 80s. But the behind the scenes feature goes on to explain the process of creating a new movie out of the old footage. The featurette is a must-watch, and very well may be worth the price of admission!
Will George's new drinking game catch on with our listeners... (we hope not!) Will Travis ever learn to love a movie with a redubbed audio track? (don't hold your breath!) Did Dan just say "Unrelenting Crotch Hell" in... context? (He did!)
Come for the Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja: The Movie vibes, and stay for the Beat-It aesthetics and Pink Floyd sexy scenes. New York Ninja is one to seek out!
Coming November 1st, 2021, from Vinegar Syndrome Pictures. Available at www.vinegarsyndrome.com
*Update* The review states that the film will be released on UHD, however a Facebook post from Vinegar Syndrome states that it will be in standard Blu-ray only. Don't let that dampen your excitement. This movie is still wonderful in 1080p!

The Fog (1980)
Wednesday Oct 20, 2021
Wednesday Oct 20, 2021
We made sure to get John Carpenter's (tepid, let's not kid ourselves) blessing to reformulate The Fog into a quasi-Halloween 2 position to begin a WILD horror anthology to conclude with Halloween 3 next week. No really, we did! It is on our YouTube page!
It has been a while since George went "Full George" on us but he picked a heck of a time to do it. The Fog is John Carpenter's theatrical follow-up to Halloween (1978.) But what if the over-sequelization of the 1980s never occurred. (Thanks Friday the 13th Part 2 for kicking that trend into high gear!) What if John Carpenter hadn't been made to make Halloween 2 featuring Michael Myers and instead he simply left The Fog as the follow-up to Halloween in a sort of Horror Anthology from the Master of Horror himself?
Has Travis accidentally let us in on his secret crush on Edith Bunker? Why does George know so much about the physics and behavior of literal fog? Was Dan able to convince Travis and George that we should just go ahead and replace Halloween 2 with Halloween 2: The Fog?

Interview with 13 Fanboy director Deborah Voorhees
Friday Oct 15, 2021

Deborah Voorhees, an 80s cult icon for her roles in Friday the 13th Part 5, Avenging Angel and Appointment with Fear, joins the class to discuss her upcoming directorial effort: 13 Fanboy.
13 Fanboy is a whodunnit mystery in which the stars of Friday the 13th films are stalked in the "real world" by a crazed stalker. Kane Hodder, Judie Aronson, Dee Wallace and Lar Park-Lincoln play themselves and are joined by fellow Friday alumnus Corey Feldman. Streaming on VOD and in select theaters beginning October 22, 2021!

Happy Anniversary! The Remedial Film Class Podcast is now 1 year old!
George sounded a bit flabbergasted that we were skipping 4 (and a half?) sequels and jumping straight to Halloween 7. But what he didn't know, and may not fully appreciate still, is that we were simply crafting for him the "original" Laurie Strode Trilogy. He will thank us in time. Travis, fighting through a nasty case of COVID-19, recorded remotely for this one so please excuse his "CB radio while the radio is on fire" sound quality.
Is Travis trying to get a Rob Zombie/Jamie Lee Curtis collaboration going? Has Dan figured out which movie H20 is actually a sequel to? Did George really catch all the Psycho references he thought he did? You know there's only way to find out...
Head over to YouTube to see Dan's interview with John Carpenter. You will hear a preview of Phase 2 of the Fall Break!

Halloween 2 (1981)
Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
George loved the original Halloween. And since we showed him that he has seen approximately 15 slasher movies since then, all inspired by John Carpenter's original 1978 classic. But now it is time for a Fall Break so we are watching Halloween 2.
Did Travis enjoy his giallo homework leading up to Halloween 2? What breaking Halloween news updates will Dan have from his recent conversation with John Carpenter? Will George be able to predict where this series is headed?

Dr. Strangelove (1964)
Wednesday Sep 29, 2021
Wednesday Sep 29, 2021
George has an affinity for Stanley Kubrick, but he's never seen Dr. Strangelove. Travis talks about Dr. Strangelove all the time because of his experience in the theater. It was only a matter of time until we brought George to the promised land (via 30 megaton hydrogen bomb, naturally.) This is in many ways a "Part 2" of last week's Fail Safe (1964) episode, so we highly recommend you start with that one. But if your evil gloved hand clicks this one first, so be it!
Will George be able to handle the goofiness and slapstick qualities of this satire? Did Travis just advocate violating the Dewey Decimal System? Did Dan just call Travis a Kant? This is a wild one folks.

Fail Safe (1964)
Wednesday Sep 22, 2021
Wednesday Sep 22, 2021
George and Travis both went into Fail Safe blindly. They didn't know why Dan would make them watch a black and white movie about the Cold War right after Weird Science. They weren't even sure the science in Fail Safe would be weird at all. We know many of our listeners haven't watched Fail Safe before, but they darn well should. So we spend the first half of the episode in non-spoiler territory to convince you all to watch it. And we give you a chance to pause it before the spoilerfication begins.
Did George manage to let the tension of this classic Cold War thriller push him to the edge of his seat? What exactly is that raptor doing in Travis's throat? And did Dan just make it through an entire episode without mentioning slasher movies!?

Weird Science (1985)
Wednesday Sep 15, 2021
Wednesday Sep 15, 2021
George wasn't sure what he was going into with Weird Science... And we aren't sure he knew what he was coming out of when it was over. Travis and Dan have plenty of work ahead to unpack this 80's classic!
Can Dan find a way to organically link the Silent Night, Deadly Night franchise and Dario Argento to the works of John Hughes? Will the Crypt Keeper kindly return Travis to his original state? Did George at least recognize Robert Downey Junior in this one?

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
We didn't tell George anything about this movie ahead of time. We didn't show him the trailer that spoils the third act of the movie, nor did we hint that Quentin Tarantino was remotely involved in the film. As such, George might have been the first person in history to go into this movie blindly. Did it work or did it just serve to anger him? I mean, straight up, does he hate us and this movie now?
Will George forgive us (and the movie) for not warning him ahead of time? If Travis is the "George Clooney" of the pair, did he fully commit and get a neck tattoo? Did Dan really invite THAT actor into THAT franchise reboot? There's only one way to find out!

Wednesday Sep 01, 2021
George new going in to the first A Nightmare on Elm Street that we were planning on doubling up with the sequel (if it is good enough for the Godfather...) but he had no idea what he was in for this time around.
Did George get the taunting evil Freddy that Travis promised him? Was Travis satisfied by his old favorite Freddy characterization outside of nostalgia? Did Dan really just blow George's mind with medical history? Tune in to find out!

George has seen Freddy Vs Jason, so he knows what the character became. But is he ready for scary Freddy and a really questionable origin story? And a big Thank You to Robert Englund for welcoming George to the family.
How far into the movie did George realize that Glen was played by Hollywood SuperDuper Star Johnny Depp? Did Travis have YouTube access in the 1970s? How did Dan end up with such a firm grip on celestial physics? Only one way to find out!
