Poor George. He's never seen any movies. Rather than mourn their dear friend, Travis and Dan have taken it upon themselves to show him what he is missing. But they don't stop at showing him famous movies! They also help George to understand how each film fits into the Great Narrative of Film. Not only THAT the film of the week is significant, but WHY and HOW. Also, they make jokes and stuff.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
What happens when George watches an 80s sex comedy? If Porky's was any indication... well let's hope Porky's isn't any indication. Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a critically-lauded nostalgia trip for young and old alike... but will it pass muster with George? And will Nicolas Cage manage to derail his enjoyment? They certainly don't make them like this anymore.
Will George recognize any of the numerous famous actors who made their debut in this indie classic? If Travis loves this movie so much, why doesn't he marry it? Will Dan ever hear "Somebody's Baby" the same way again? Or is he stuck Running on Empty? These Days, you just never know. But you can know... tune in today!

This is Spinal Tap (1984) (with Richard Oliver from the Chasing Tone Podcast!)
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Guitars. Music. Improv Comedy. Stonehenge. This is Spinal Tap is the perfect movie to celebrate our 100th Episode with special guest Richard Oliver from The Chasing Tone Podcast and Wampler Pedals. George and Travis are both seeing this one for the first time, and if that isn't justification for doing this show we can't imagine what is.
Will George see the value in the 1959 Les Paul that sustains for literal weeks? Or will he stick with his preferred Boomer Guitar: The Gibson SG? Will Travis feel at home in the improv despite the black leather, chains, whips, dog collars and violins? Does Richard, an Englishman himself, approve of the accents? Did Dan just hot-take Metallica's mainstream turn into oblivion?

The Fugitive (1993)
Wednesday Jul 06, 2022
Wednesday Jul 06, 2022
George isn't familiar with The Fugitive, but he has seen Tommy Lee Jones portray a character similar to Deputy Marshall Gerard in the Coen Brothers' Oscar-winner No Country for Old Men. This is the first Harrison Ford appearance on The Remedial Film Class Podcast, and it probably will not be his last. George will recognize both of these actors immediately right? Right?
Will George appreciate the "scale" of the drama and action in The Fugitive, especially compared to last week's Primal Fear and Dan's criticism? Will Travis invite his favorite Marshall to join the podcast as a guest in a future episode? Will Dan's "Chicago Accent" get us cancelled?

Primal Fear (1996)
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
George and Dan are both first-time viewers for this Travis pick. Richard Gere, Laura Linney and the Dad from Frasier join (RFCP regular) Edward Norton in the longest and filthiest episode of NYPD Blue yet.
Was George convinced by Edward Norton Hulking-out as the angry alternate personality? Did Travis manage to find the acting performances justify the questionable legal procedure? Will Dan forgive the "Clerks but only regular job things happen" dynamic of the plot? And do the guys find out why it is called Primal Fear?

Wild Things (1998)
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
George was the perfect age to see Wild Things at a sleep over and have his eyes opened to a brave new world... But that never happened back then so we are making up for lost time!
Will George come away from this one ready to watch Showgirls? Will Travis ever stop trying to audible the movie the night before we record? Will Dan ever forgive George for his... Great Transgression? Tune in and find out!

The Devil’s Advocate (1997)
Wednesday Jun 15, 2022
Wednesday Jun 15, 2022
George had a pretty good idea of what The Devil's Advocate was going to be, based on his guess last week. But he couldn't possibly foresee Keanu Reeves facing Al Pacino in a blend of The Omen, The Client and Seven. And the twist at the end? And the twist after that? Heck no. Had no idea. But... did he dig it?
Was George buying into the "Wonder Woman's Mom" energy of the seductive Christabella? Did Travis think the Rick Baker demon effects were more The Thing or more Spawn? Does Dan's Al Pacino impression hold a candle to Travis's? And! Stick around for a revisiting of The Prestige (one week later) and a discussion of American perspectives on nudity in film (inspired somewhat by next week's title).

Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige (2006)
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
George loved the Nolan Batman trilogy before we ever considered doing a podcast. So how excited will he be when he realizes that the same director put together a similar cast (plus a Wolverine and a Gollum) to tell the tale of two professional rivals who become bitter personal enemies. Oh and there is magic and David Bowie and maybe the darkest personal quest we've seen in a Piper Perabo movie.
Will George and Travis be able to keep up with the twists and turns (and teleportation) in their first watch through this movie? Will Dan finally show the guys a movie that they both like on their first watch? Will anyone finally do something about these damn dirty apes? Tune in to find out!

The Rock (1996)
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
George has never seen a Sean Connery movie. George has never seen a Michael Bay movie. Heck, he doesn't really know Ed Harris either. I know I know I know. One person he does know is Nicholas Cage. And he HATES Nicholas Cage. But can we introduce him to the best action performance of Cage's career and make a believer out of him? Or is George just going to be a bit chit-chatter?
Will Travis convince George that Ridley Scott's Alien is grounded cinema? Will George learn that he secretly hates Al Pacino? Can Dan manage to not bring down the room while discussing multiple real-life hellscapes? You be the judge!

Boogie Nights (1997)
Wednesday May 25, 2022
Wednesday May 25, 2022
George is going in blind this week, with no context. Is he ready for a two-and-a-half hour epic of 70s sleaze and 80s debauchery? I mean, obviously he isn't. Let's see how it goes! It might take Dan giving a guick "history of adult entertainment" to bring the context George needs.
Will George open his cold heart to empathize with the down-and-out LA adult scene actors as they try to overcome the rejection of mainstream America and build new family units from the injured souls around them? Oh, c'mon. This is George we are talking about.
Let's try this again: Will George appreciate the tragedy as the LA scene chews up and spits out the actors? Will Travis love this acting tour-de-force and laud the break-out performances that made Paul Thomas Anderson a perineal Oscar contender? Will Dan finally get the guys to appreciate clever cinematography? Tune in and find out!

Manhunter (1986)
Wednesday May 18, 2022
Wednesday May 18, 2022
George really likes Hannibal Lecter. But how will he handle Hannibal Lecktor? We didn't tell him that Manhunter is based on the book Red Dragon, and so it is essentially the original and Red Dragon (which we watched last week) is a remake. Despite it saying "Based on the novel Red Dragon" in the opening titles, how long will George go before he realizes this is the same movie? He'll read the credits, right? Right!?
There's shades of (and discussions of) Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Batman, Silence of the Lambs and many more as George attempts to see where this early Michael Mann movie fits within the framework he knows from the later movies and TV show.
Will George see the value in a much more grounded approach to familiar characters like Will Graham, Hannibal and Jack Crawford? Will Travis appreciate the nuanced but subtle reading of the dialogue that leaves the tension in the details instead of big swings of theatrical pomp? Or will they both poo on the movie mercilessly? And what hidden detail did Dan notice that would tie a line from Pink Floyd all the way though Silence of the Lambs? Tune in to find out!

Red Dragon (2002)
Wednesday May 11, 2022
Wednesday May 11, 2022
George is a big fan of The Silence of the Lambs. And he really enjoyed a few episodes of the TV show Hannibal. But how will he feel to revisit the first version of Hannibal he saw some 20 years ago? Travis hasn't seen it since it was in theaters, and Dan hasn't seen it since 2006 or so. Will the movie hold up or will Brett Ratner leave a rodent taste in everyone's mouth?
Join us as lift imitates art and brings this episode on a twisty (real life) path that parallels the movie... a little too well..
Will George finally get to drop a shout-out to a kind (and Jason tattoo-sporting) local healthcare worker? (Really, wouldn't it be even weirder if he DIDN'T after including something so specific in the summary?) Can Travis contain his inner Kermit the Frog? Will Dan successfully draw a line from mid-90s Cinemax psychic detectives through the RFCP curriculum? Tune it to find out!

The Cell (2000)
Wednesday May 04, 2022
Wednesday May 04, 2022
George and Dan not have seen The Cell. Travis brought this to their attention as the guys explore the Early 2000s Serial Killer genre... (Also known as the "Nine Inch Nails period of Modern Horror")
And Dan shares a new insight into the Psycho shower scene... !
Will George find himself happily whisked away to a dreamscape in a mindscape while standing on desert landscape? Can Travis convince Dan to put some onions on his movie steak? Will Dan ever get the guys to slow down long enough to see the differences between these movies, instead of simply attaching to the similarities? Only one way to find out!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Wednesday Apr 27, 2022
Wednesday Apr 27, 2022
George loved the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. But while he enjoyed The Ring, he didn't love Saw. Will the "Early 2000s" vibes of the Michael Bay-produced remake do the trick? (It was directed by the same guy as the Friday the 13th remake that George loved!)
Will George enjoy the beefed up Jason-clone nature of the new Leatherface or will he miss the femininity of the original? Will Travis convince Dan that the Passion of the Christ was more scriptural than Robocop? Did Dan enjoy the now almost 20 year old remake of Chainsaw more than the recent Direct to Netflix ret-con sequel?
