Poor George. He's never seen any movies. Rather than mourn their dear friend, Travis and Dan have taken it upon themselves to show him what he is missing. But they don't stop at showing him famous movies! They also help George to understand how each film fits into the Great Narrative of Film. Not only THAT the film of the week is significant, but WHY and HOW. Also, they make jokes and stuff.

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) (With Special Guest Troy Howarth!)
Wednesday Jan 20, 2021
Wednesday Jan 20, 2021
Join George and the guys as we welcome a special guest, film historian Troy Howarth. Troy literally wrote the book on giallo (three of them, actually) (and another on Argento) (and another on Bava... and you get the picture) and provided the audio commentary for The Bird with the Crystal Plumage for Arrow Films recent Blu-Ray release. In short, George just promoted to next-level film nerdity.
We manage to not spoil the movie for most of the episode, and we clearly delineate when we hit spoiler territory, so never fear if you haven't seen Bird just yet. But hopefully we make the case to check it out!
What was planned as a standard episode with a guest turns into a "how to watch European cult cinema and live to tell the tale" (which, it turns out, was just the thing George and Travis were needing). After Troy departs we soldier on in our usual fashion, fighting all comers to get George to stop overthinking everything and just enjoy himself for a few hours...
Will George ever find a crystal-plumed bird that satisfies his remarkably stringent plumage standards? Can Travis successfully pinpoint his specific Meyers-Briggs "subtitles and dubs" personality type? Does Dan survive the guest portion without completely fan-boying out? Tune in to find out!

Die Hard (1988)
Wednesday Jan 13, 2021
Wednesday Jan 13, 2021
George has never died hard. We know, it was shocking to us as well. Die Hard... the best Christmas movie you can watch all year 'round and George hasn't watched it. Travis and Dan set out to rescue George from the Nakatomi Plaza of ignorance. And they... mostly succeed.
Will George ever figure out which Baldwin brother Travis thinks is handsome? Can Dan borrow someone's MP5A5 to try to recreate the descent into the ventilation shaft? Did Travis miss the memo about not opening up to jerks like Dan and George? Find out while the guys discuss George's First Time with Die Hard.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Wednesday Dec 30, 2020
2020 is finally just... about... o-- Oh no time froze and it is 2020 all over again! Groundhog Year!
To celebrate the end of this horrid year (everything except the podcasting, of course) George is going to revisit Ed Gein's legacy for the third time with The Silence of the Lambs. He has seen Psycho... He has seen The Texas Chainsaw Massacre... But how will George enjoy the "90's Version" of the flesh-wearing mythos?
Did George even realize that Buffalo Bill was from this movie? Does Travis's theory on the heritage of Jame Gumb hold water... perhaps a tub worth? Will "Dan in Post" return? How do the guys end up connecting the Halloween (1978) episode with this classic movie?

Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Wednesday Dec 23, 2020
Wednesday Dec 23, 2020
'Tis the season to be merry... But Dan showed George (and Travis) the classic slasher Silent Night, Deadly Night to keep their merriment in check. And then Dan made Travis and George stick around for a quick bounce through the highlights of Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) just for kicks.
This is a special "Holiday Edition" of the Remedial Film Class, but don't fret, we are back with a regular episode next week! In the meantime, consider joining the Remedial Film Class Podcast - Extra Credit Discussion group on Facebook!

Season 2 is upon George, and what better way to get him back into the swing of things than to... make him watch a remake of the last 10 movies he watched? We are watching Friday the 13th (2009) and George is getting a full course on how to do a remake (or reboot) well.
Is George finally going to get the Tommy-Jason of his dreams? Can Travis stop gushing over Derek Mears long enough to tell us how he would have ended the movie? Who is Dan's MVP (and why isn't it who we all assumed it would be?)

Jason X (2002)
Friday Dec 04, 2020
Friday Dec 04, 2020
George has been to Hell and back with Jason. And that was just in Part 8! (womp womp...) Where else could Jason go after being dragged to Hell by Jim Hinson Demon Hands than directly to space? There were no other options, we asked.
How long into watching this movie did George finally realize that Jason was legitimately going to be in space for the rest of the movie? We're not kidding, he didn't know it was a space movie! How many other franchise formula copies will Travis suggest, and will all of them be better concepts than this one? (Spoiler: Many. And yes.) How many copies of Torso does Dan own and why is this relevant to Jason X?
This episode is the final in our Fall Break sidequest. Stick with us to the end to find out where we are headed for Episode 1 of Season 2 which will launch December 16th!

Jason Goes to Hell (1993)
Wednesday Dec 02, 2020
Wednesday Dec 02, 2020
The time has come. George has been asking for a body-jumping Jason spirit monster thing for the past few episodes. It is his perfect solution. It explains everything! And now he is going to get that idea served back to him in spades.
Was George regretful for this "spirit Jason" wishes? Did Travis ever get his Van Helsing? Did Dan just join the Undercover Stripper Brigade?

Friday the 13th Part 8 (1989)
Friday Nov 27, 2020
Friday Nov 27, 2020
George is ready to make sure that the Crystal Lake Camp electrical grid is up to code. Travis is ready to pounce on Dan for any ounce of nostalgia. And Dan? He doesn't want less Jason on a boat... it sounds like he is actually arguing for more Jason on a boat!
How would George handle the Vancouver fight with the drug addicts? Does Travis come around to Jason's second attempt a laugh? Will Dan ever learn to pronounce Nico Mastorakis's name?

Friday the 13th Part 7 (1988)
Wednesday Nov 25, 2020
Wednesday Nov 25, 2020
George had all his hopes set on a murderous Tommy-Jason. Part 5 let him down. Part 6 let him down. Is it finally time for Tommy-Jason to take up the mantle of Jason? No. No it isn't. How will George cope with the abrupt swerve of the franchise into a veritable Carrie vs. Jason?
Can George ever come to grips with the Zombie Dad? Why is Travis defending the Bang Van? Will Dan ever forgive this movie for hurting him so? How would Dan fix this movie? And would that fix be more MacGyver or MacGruber?
Theme song recorded by The Hungry Sevens, featuring Shawnee Houlihan.

Friday the 13th Part 6 (1986)
Friday Nov 20, 2020
Friday Nov 20, 2020
George knows that the time has come for Tommy-Jason. After the tease of Part 5 there is no way that Tommy-Jason won't save us from the mediocrity of Part 5 by finally taking the mantle and the machete. George is ready to see Jason-Tommy run roughshod over everyone like a WWE run-in.
How will George channel his disappointment with the abandoned Tommy-Jason plotline? Will Travis ever get his RV? Has Dan forgiven Part 6 for letting him down when he was 12?
In a continuation of the Part 5 episode, the guys wrap up their discussion of Phenomena (1985). They have seen the Italians steal the Friday the 13th formula back, and now thanks to Part 6 they have seen the Americans steal the aesthetic from Phenomena for their next Jason venture. And the snake continues to eat itself.

Friday the 13th Part 5 (1985)
Wednesday Nov 18, 2020
Wednesday Nov 18, 2020
Jason is dead and George is here to see where we go from here. Join us to hear us speak ill of the dead and stay to hear George accidentally predict a future Jason plot point. And Dan begins work on a musical crossover for Jason.
Did George try seducing Jason? Will Travis save this movie with new plot insight? Is Dan talking smack on enchiladas? Can the guys get through an entire discussion of Friday Part 5 without once discussing Debbie Sue Voorhees?

After the main episode has concluded the guys stick around to discuss Dario Argento's Phenomena (1985), which at the time of publishing is available on Amazon Prime and on Blu-Ray. Argento is the master of Italian horror, and his movies influenced Halloween 1 and 2, and to a lesser extent Friday the 13th. The guys explore what happens when the original influencers decide to adopt the innovations of the people who they themselves have influenced.

Friday Nov 13, 2020
Friday Nov 13, 2020
George survived Part 3. And against all odds he is willing to continue watching these movies. Good news for George... Part 4 may be lying about being the Final Chapter but it is a real good flick.
Will George ever find out what happened to Mrs. Jarvis? Did Travis just admit to making a snuff film? Is Dan doing a British accent or is there a gas leak in his studio?

Alert! Alert! George finally gets a hockey-masked Jason. And it comes flying at him... in 3D! That is like... almost an entire D more than the others. (Christopher Nolan would disagree, he says all moves are 3D and he made The Dark Knight so who are we to argue!?)
Will George try to join Fox and Ali's motorcycle gang? Does Travis successfully defend himself against the critical onslaught? Can Dan make Travis cry with 70's movie trivia... again?
